Judson Bowlers Finish Amongst Top 4 Teams at Kohawk Invite
Cedar Rapids, IA This past weekend the Judson Eagles competed at the Kohawk Invitational in Cedar Rapids Iowa.
The Lady Eagles had another very strong weekend as they were able to come away with a 4th place finish. The Lady Eagles had a strong and consistent day on Saturday with games of 911, 962, 984, 954, and 877 to average 187.52 for the day as a team. On day 2, the Lady Eagles came out of the gate absolutely on fire, shooting sets of 837, 846, 777, and 741 led to the highest baker team average of the season at 200.1. With that performance, the ladies were able to make the match-play format for the second straight week. Judson faced off against powerhouse Mount Mercy who is currently ranked 5th in the country. The Eagles were able to keep things close but some errand shots late in match two allowed Mount mercy to come away with the victory 2-0 in the baker matches. The women were led by Freshman standout Paige Carpenter who shot 1033 for her 5 games for an average of 206.6, Paige also went 92% on her single pins and struck 57% of her shots for the weekend. Chloe Siezega had a stellar weekend averaging 199 and struck 56% of her shots and had an overall fill percentage of 83.67%. Freshman Darian Mobley had her most impressive performance of the season. Darian averaged 188 for her 5 games with 86% single pin percentage as well as leading the team with a 73.08% on multiple pins. Darian has come so far this season as she has bowled her way solidly onto the varsity team after starting the season on JV. Freshman Standout Demi Kontos continued to be solid as she averaged 186 for the weekend and was 85% on her single pins. Sophomore Michele Chancey had a single pin percentage of 80%, Junior Neena Dingillo had a 72% fill percentage, and Sophomore Brandy Stewart had a stellar multipin spare percentage of 72.73%. A shout-out also goes to Brandy as she came in on multiple occasions as a designated spare shooter and converted on every opportunity that was thrown at her. Brandy showed her mental toughness and her execution in those pressure situations was simply awesome for our team to maintain momentum.
On the Men's Varsity side, the Eagles came away with a 3rd place finish. After a slow start in game 1 of 873 on Saturday the men went on a tear shooting games of 1032, 1009, 1070, and 1093 to take them from 15th after game 1 all the way to 3rd at the end of qualifying. On day 2 the team kept that momentum going and shot sets of 863, 681, 857, and 740 which kept them solidly in 3rd place by around 340 pins above fourth. Making their 2nd cut of the season the team had to go against St Ambrose university which is currently ranked 8th in the country. The team battled all the way through but weren't able to put together enough good shots in a row to get the momentum going and fell 2-0 in the baker matches. Senior Blaine Hunt led the way with a 214 average and another stellar single-pin percentage of 92.86%. Blaine is currently 201 out of 217 for the season on single pins which is a stellar 92.63%. Freshman Alex Kouvelas put together his best performance of the season and had an awesome stat line of a 208.6 average, 91.67% on single pins, and 86.67% on multi pins which led to an awesome overall fill percentage of 93.18% for the weekend. Sophomore Sebastian Beth continues to be solid averaging 205 for the weekend and led the team in multipin spare percentage at 92.86%. Sophomore Jimmy Kontos continues to be solid as he averaged 201.6 with a multipin percentage of 82.61%. Sophomore Owen Farish proved that perseverance and mental fortitude pays off as he struggled in game 1 but came back off the bench in games 4 and 5 with 245 and 236 to bring a ton of momentum to the team. Junior Tom Antonson, Freshman Phil Heuser, and Griffin Roake also contributed to the team's overall success and communication throughout the weekend.
Judson will continue the momentum from these performances as they head to the V-Hawk Invite in LaCrosse, Wisconsin next weekend.
