Eagles Boil Up 3rd Place Finish
Lafayette, IN - On the Men's Varsity side we were able to come away with a 3rd place finish missing 2nd by only 4 pins over 41 games of Bowling. The Eagles came out of the gate on fire shooting 1089 as a team in game 1. Game 2 was a bit of a struggle in shooting 886 but the rest of the day was super solid shooting games of 1074, 978, and 1007 on the day. Making his first All Tournament of the season was James Kontos who finished 5th in averaging 211 on the day! Jimmy also had an astounding strike percentage of 66% for the entire weekend!
On day 2 the team was on fire in baker shooting sets of 834, 750, 876, and 912 and a team average of 210.75 during Baker Competition. This team continues to show signs of its potential and is improving weekly as we head into the final 2 tournaments before winter break. Sophomore standout Phil Heuser had a superb day averaging 206 for while carrying a 83% single pin percentage. Junior standout Sebastian Beth was super solid all weekend averaging 205.6 and a single pin percentage of 91.67% and 80% on multipins and overall fill percentage of 89%! Sophomore standout Eric Roberts averaged 194 for the weekend and had a multi pin percentage of 71.43%.
Senior leader Thomas Antonson in his final season as an Eagle has broken through and is reaching his full potential as he averaged 192 for the weekend and was perfect 18 for 18 on single pins for 100%! Sophomore Griffin Roake had a single pin percentage of 75% and supported the team selflessly all weekend.
On the Men's JV side we were also able to come away with a 3rd place finish! On day 1 they were sitting in 1st place and had a high game of 948 which was led by Sophomore Connor Richmond who shot 258! Connor also led the team in average with 198.75 for his 4 games bowled on Saturday. Senior Anthony Gutierrez also was solid in averaging 190 for his 3 games and carried a 75% multipin percentage on spares. Freshman standout Caleb Parent continues to impress in averaging 185.75 for his 4 games. Caleb is establishing himself as one of the best spare shooters in the mens program!
This weekend he was at 90.48% on single pins and 80.95% on multipins! Caleb is currently ranked 2nd overall in single pin percentage for the season! On day 2 the Eagles came out strong and extended there lead in set one shooting 754 for the 4 games. Set 2, 3, and 4 was a struggle in which the team dropped to 3rd to finish out the day.
Senior (AJ) Aaron Paige came off the bench with 2 solid games and a 184 average and a 46% strike percentage for the weekend. Junior Matthew Sipes made a solid contribution off the bench in averaging 173 and a 70.27% fill percentage. Sophomore Adan Cabezudo averaged 171 for the weekend and had a fill percentage of 74.19% on the weekend. Freshman standout Caleb Vergona who led this year's tryouts had a high game of 215 and Freshman Brendan Jones had a single pin percentage of 72.73%.
The Eagles take to the lanes again in 2 weeks at the Leatherneck Classic in Moline, Illinois!
