Both Bowling Teams Bring Home Championship at V-Hawk Invite
LaCrosse, WI This past weekend the Judson Eagles competed at the V-Hawk Invitational.
The Lady Eagles had an amazing weekend as the team was able to come away with a Championship for both Varsity and JV squads. During this one-day event that took about 9 hours to bowl, both teams were able to come away with victories with terrific performances across the board. During Baker games, the varsity ladies were able to put together the highest 4-game baker total in school history with games of 203, 249, 279, and 190 for a 919 total and a 229.75 average for that set. That ending allowed the team to coast to a dominating victory by 524 pins over 2nd place Viterbo. On the varsity side, the team was led by sophomore standout Chloe Siezega who averaged 192.8 for the day as well as 85% single pins and a 97.3% fill percentage during baker games and was able to take second place in the individual standings. Sophomore Michele Chancey came off the bench to average 182 for her 3 games and had an 81.8 single-pin percentage. Freshman Darian Mobley continues to impress averaging 182.2 and a 69.57 multipin spare percentage and she finished 4th individually. Freshman standout Paige Carpenter was solid as she went 81% on single pins and 73.33% on multi pins, Freshman Demi Kontos was 78.95% on single pins and 66.67% on Multipins, and Junior Tina Tindall contributed with 70% on single pins and 30.43% strike percentage.
On the JV side, they also had a dominating performance as they averaged 176.48 during regular games and 175.75 during baker games as a team. They also had a strong finish with games of 143,204, 168, and 210 to take the victory by 280 pins over 2nd place Viterbo. Junior Neena Dingillo dominated the field individually where she shot games of 167, 213, 232, 228, and 228 for a 5-game total of 1068 to average 213.6 and earned Tournament MVP honors. Neena also had a 58% strike percentage for the tournament. Sophomore Kaylee Mann had her best overall performance as an Eagle where she averaged 181.8 and an 80% single pin percentage and finish fifth individually. Sophomore Brandy Stewart also continues to grow and had an average of 176.2 and an impressive 85.71% single pin percentage, and she also was 20 for 21 on single pins during regular games. Junior Alicia Anton also continues to get her game back on track after a knee injury earlier in the season. Alicia went 9 for 9 on single pins for 100% and had a 168.33 average. Sophomore Marisa Garcia shined in the baker games where she struck 71% of the time striking 15 out of 21 shots, which is an amazing percentage. Other contributors were Sophomore Kaitlynn Pillion, who always brings a ton of intensity and fire to the team, as well as Sydney Melton who had a key strike late in competition to spark the lady eagles to victory.
The team also made history on the individual side of things with four out of the top five ladies being Eagles. Neena Dingillo made her first All-Tournament team in winning individual tournament MVP honors. Sophomore Chloe Siezega placed second overall and recorded her 2nd All-Tournament team of the season. Freshman Darian Mobley placed 4th overall and made her first All-Tournament team of her young collegiate career and Sophomore Kaylee Mann made her first All-Tournament team placing 5th.
On the Men's Varsity side, the Eagles came away with the Championship. With a final baker set of 228, 209, 203, and 221 this team was able to pull away from 2nd place Wisconsin Oshkosh and win by 303 pins. The team averaged 201 during baker games and 199 during regular games a team. Senior Blaine Hunt came away with Tournament MVP honors by 1 pin as he averaged 214 for his 5 games with a terrific 90% on single pins. Freshman standout Alex Kouvelas made his first All-Tournament team finishing 4th and averaging 205 with an 83.75% fill percentage. Sophomore Owen Farish had a fantastic day making the All-Tournament team and placing 5th while carrying a 94.44% on single pins. Junior Tom Antonson came off the bench with massive intensity in the final baker set. Tom averaged 190 for the day and had a single-pin percentage of 77.78%. Sophomore Sebastian Beth averaged 183.33 for the day and was 80% in single pins and Sophomore Jimmy Kontos was solid with a 92.31 single pin percentage.
This team also made some history as we had 3 individuals in the top 5 for the day. Senior Blaine Hunt was tournament MVP and his 2nd All-Tournament team of the season, Freshman Alex Kouvelas placed 4th overall for his first All-Tournament team, and Sophomore Owen Farish placed 5th overall and his first of the season.
On the JV side, this team was able to come up with a 2nd place finish. Freshman Standout Griffin Roake who has been injured averaged 194 for his 2 games and was 100% on single pins before pulling himself due to tweaking his knee. Junior Anthony Gutierrez averaged 171.60 and had a 75% single-pin percentage. Freshman Adan Cabezudo who has improved dramatically from the beginning of the season averaged 164 with a 77% single-pin percentage. Sophomore Matt Sipes averaged 155 for the weekend and always brings an unmatched level of intensity and fire. Freshman Connor Richmond had an average of 145 and continues to improve and is a terrific teammate to all. AJ Paige had an average of 141 and has also drastically improved his physical game. This team will continue to improve with more on-lane tournament experience.
Both teams seemed to be peaking at the right time as the Eagles head into the final regular season tournament of the season at the Tier 1 Hoosier Classic next weekend.
