Eagles Battle Saints, Heat, Earn Tie

Eagles Battle Saints, Heat, Earn Tie

Elgin, IL - It may have been Labor Day, but it was no day off for the Eagles' women's soccer team. JU battled Siena Heights University to a toasty, hard-fought tie 1-1. The ladies now stand at a record of 1-2-1 on the season, but they are becoming battled tested for when conference play arrives.

Senior Payton Siragusa (Sycamore, IL) netted the first goal of the game within the first few minutes. About nine minutes later, the Saints tied it up. Those early goals were the only goals of the match as the second half was a scoreless draw.

Throughout the game, the Eagles defense was tough and disciplined. In goal, Eva Fernandez had five saves, and senior Stephanie Naskrent led the way on the back line. Each team had a few more scoring chances in the first half, but in the second half, defense reigned supreme. It was a challenge for each team to get away quality shots on goal.

Still, the effort is strong for JU. They have good team chemistry, and even after a long lay off, the Eagles came out of the gates ready to go.

Judson will get another long layoff as they will next take the pitch on Saturday, September 16th as they host conference opponent Roosevelt at high noon.
