The Most Valuable Player and team captain on the 1975 baseball team, Smith led his team with 27 RBI and five homeruns. He also won a team-high seven games as a pitcher. As a senior, Smith excelled on both the baseball and men's soccer teams. He was a member of the 1975 NCCAA National Tournament team in which he earned All-Tournament honors. He was also recognized on the NIIC All-Conference Second Team and the NAIA All-District Team. In baseball, Smith struck out 92 batters, the program's single-season high and he pitched the program's only no hitter this year. Again the team's MVP and captain, Smith led the squad with a .415 batting average and 2.71 ERA. He ranks first all-time with 72 career RBI, seven career triples, 19 career wins and 242 strikeouts.
