MATT BARNES '95
Judson's 1994-95 Male Athlete of the Year, Matt Barnes was a four-year letterman for Steve Burke. Finishing fifth all-time at Judson in points (176) and goals (68), he holds the single game record for goals in a game (8) and points (20) set in his sophomore season of 1991. He finished his career with 40 assists which is good for ninth overall at Judson. It was in his senior year (1994) that he had the most offensive impact on his team as he was the leader in points (79) and goals (32) which are good for fourth all-time in a single season at Judson. The team captain helped his team to a fifth place finish at the NCCAA National Tournament while being named to the NCCAA National All-Tournament team. He also earned NCCAA All-American second-team, NCCAA Academic All-American, NAIA All-Region, and all-NIIC awards. In the 1991 season, his second at Judson, his team finished 21-5 and captured Judson's first-ever NCCAA National Championship with a 7-1 win over Kings College. He was also named to the All-NIIC team. The 1993 season, his junior year, brought a second place finish at the NCCAA National Tournament with a 20-5-2 record. Academically that year he was named to the NCCAA and NAIA Academic All-American teams and was also voted the Judson Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Judson went 81-19-5 in his four seasons (1990, 91, 93, 94) and went to three NCCAA National tournaments.
