Schwelnus is a 2005 graduate who was a key player in the improved success of the Judson baseball program in the early 2000s that has continued today. A catcher for the Eagles, Schwelnus was named Team Best Defensive Player three times and Team Most Valuable Player as a senior. He was a three-time NCCAA All-Region selection and two-time CCAC All-Conference recipient. He ranks in the career Top 10 in program history in hits, RBI, home runs, walks and at-bats. A team co-captain, Schwelnus helped lead the Eagles to their first NCCAA National Tournament appearance in 2004.
