Bourbonnais, IL - In a week where the Eagles took on three conference games, JU may have saved the best for last. After sweeping both Indiana South Bend and Governors State during the week, on Saturday the Eagles took on a very game Olivet Nazarene squad.
Judson dropped the first set, tied it up after two, and tied it up again after four, all to go on and win in five sets; 21-25, 26-24, 19-25, 25-19, 15-7.
With the win, the Eagles are 15-9 overall, and 7-1 in conference play. JU has six games left in the regular season, all in conference play, and five of them at home. Judson has two crucial home games approaching against St. Xavier and Viterbo, who are the two teams ahead of them in the standings.
In this game, Yomailis Fernandez had 22 kills on 62 attempts. Alyssa Gerzel had 15 kills on 43 attempts. Generally, the Eagles go as their big 2 go, and on this afternoon, they played big.
Also this week, Gerzel eclipsed the 1,300 kill mark which ranks sixth on the all-time list in school history.
Alina Romero had 29 assists, while Reese McCutchan added 20. Emalee Wiley led with 24 digs.
In the game, JU had 12 blocks, with seven of them coming from Maisie Green.
Judson has a single match next week, when they host St. Xavier on Tuesday night.
