Elgin, IL - For their Homecoming Week match, the Eagles' Women's Volleyball hosted CCAC opponent St. Francis to the nest. With two of the top four teams currently in the CCAC standings, the match figured to be a good one.
After the Saints dominated the first set 25-11, the Eagles were able to rally to win the next three sets 25-17, 25-18, 25-23. With the win, the Eagles are now 11-8 overall, and 4-1 in conference play. Judson is currently in 3rd place in the standings behind unbeaten Viterbo and St. Xavier.
In the game, Alyssa Gerzel led with 15 kills, but it was the strong play of Issy Nick down the stretch that may have been the difference for JU. Nick finished with 13 kills overall, and in the fourth set, proceeded to score four straight points to bring back her team.
The Eagles were down 20-13 in set four, before they scored eight straight points, four of those by Nick.
Maisie Green was solid with 8 kills and 3 blocks.
Alina Romero had 25 assists, while Reese McCutchan added 21. Gerzel led with 17 digs.
Judson will have a tough day on Friday as they will travel to Michigan to take on a ranked Aquinas team, and a strong Bethel team in a tri-match.
