Eagles Pick Up Much Needed Win
Davenport, IA - After a battle-tested weekend, the Eagles were back on the road, and back at it on Tuesday night against the St. Ambrose Bees.
In a rematch of the Conference Tournament Championship, this meeting projected to be another fight between two of the conferences' best.
The Bees took the first set 25-17. Much like their very first meeting a season ago, JU was down early, but not out.
Led by Alyssa Gerzel's 18 kills, and Jaclyn Riedl's 13 kills, Judson was able to come all the way back to take the next three sets 25-23, 27-25, 25-21.
With the win, the Eagles are back to 1-1 in the conference, and 4-5 overall.
This was a much needed win for Judson after a tough weekend in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Over the weekend, the Eagles took on two ranked teams, and two more teams receiving votes in the NAIA National rankings. JU came away 0-4 in the contests, but brought back a ton of experience competing against the country's top teams. Those types of matchups will only help the young Eagles as the season goes on in preparing JU for postseason play.
Alina Romero had 22 assists in the match, and Reese McCutchan added 19 more. It was a whale of a game for Emalee Wiley with 21 digs.
The Eagles will travel to Calumet on Thursday night for another CCAC matchup, before heading back to Davenport over the weekend to compete in another quad event featuring dates with two more NAIA ranked teams.
This gauntlet of a stretch of games is allowing Judson to become tested in the highest level of situations.
