Eagles Face Road Showdown
Chicago, IL - The Eagles' Women's Volleyball team faces a true road test tonight as they travel to St. Xavier for a CCAC matchup. Both teams are coming off of a loss heading into the contest. For the Eagles, it is their first defeat since game one of the season. JU was riding a stellar 13 game winning streak before the minor bump in the road. Still, Judson sits atop the CCAC standings at 8-0, but St. Xavier is close behind in second place at 7-2. The outcome of this game may very well decide who brings home the CCAC regular season crown.
For the Eagles, it has been a special season thus far. They will carry into the contest two CCAC players of the week in Alyssa Gerzel, and Lindsay Lawlor.
Lawlor is also close to a career milestone of 2,000 assists. For this veteran squad, things have certainly been clicking all season long.
JU's success is certainly supported by the conference stat leaders. Gerzel is second in kills per set. Emmaline Davey is number one in hit percentage, with Gerzel in third. Another senior, Kenia Diaz Vega is number one in digs per set, and Lawlor is running away currently as the leader in assists per set. The Eagles have yet to experience a fifth set thus far this year, and maybe more impressive, they had six consecutive match sweeps as a part of their 13-game run.
On the NCCAA landscape, where the Eagles are ranked in the top-10, it is more of the same with Davey, Gerzel, Lawlor, Vega, and Lindsay Paulsen scattered across the leaderboards.
Davey's current hitting percentage of .430 is also good for 3rd in the entire NAIA landscape.
The Eagles have protected the nest all year long. They will now need to go on the road for a big-time contest, and bring a statement win back home.
Tonight could very well be the start of some impressive accolades in store for the Eagles as the season starts to turn toward the finish line.
