Judson Falls 3 Sets to 1 in North Central Region Championship Against Trinity International
Deerfield, IL The Judson Women's Volleyball team competed against their rival university Trinity International for the title of NCCAA North Central Region Champion. Despite a loss to TIU in the regular season, the Eagles fought to keep their hopes alive throughout the entire match. Falling short of a win in the first two sets, the Eagles came alive in the third and pulled out a victory. The team looked to do the same in the fourth leading by as much as 7 points, in the beginning, only to fall to the Trojans by the end of the set resulting in a loss for the Eagles 3 Sets to 1 (16-25,13-25,27-25,24-26).
The Eagles were led by Alyssa Gerzel and her performance in both the front and back row. Leading the team in kills with 14, she was able to also score three aces from the serving line being the most aggressive server for the Eagles. She was also about to contribute 5 digs and assist. Carolina Cosme had a great impact on the court in the game with her 11 kills in addition to saving 10 balls from hitting the floor. Her jump serves allotted her a service ace as well. Emmaline Davey never fails to impress in the middle position as she finished hitting a .375 hitting percentage with 9 kills. Yomailis Fernandez was all over the court finishing with 8 kills and an impressive 19 digs.
Setter Lindsay Lawlor assisted 26 kills in the match in addition to her 12 digs and 1 service ace. In the first and last set, Madeline Shepherd made her appearance in the setter position contributing 6 assists and 6 digs. Kenia Diaz Vega led the Eagles in digs finishing with 20. Her presence on the court fed Judson with confidence by keeping balls off the floors and offering the setters perfect balls to attack.
Judson is currently 18-19 on the season competing in both the CCAC and NCCAA post season tournaments.
