Judson Completes Regular Season by Taking 1 Set in Loss Against IU-Northwest
Gary, IN Judson, faced off against IU-Northwest in a four-set loss taking the 3rd in hopes of coming out victorious. The entirety of the match was close but the errors on the side of Judson allowed the Redhawks to come out on top (22-25,23-25,26-24,19-25).
In the four-set match, Sophomore Alyssa Gerzel fought her way through the defense of the Redhawks and walked away with 14 kills leading her team. Emmaline Davey never fails to stay in the top kill leaders for the Eagles as she finished with 12. Behind her was Kara Wicklund as she racked up 7, middle Lindsay Paulsen with 6, and both Brielle Wilkins and Yomailis Fernandez with 5 each.
On the defensive, four Eagles finished with double-digit digs. Leading the pack by a substantial margin was Kenia Diaz Vega and her 24 digs. Game after game, she is able to lead the Eagles in this category as the starting libero. Gerzel finished with 13 digs, both Fernandez and Wicklund finished with 10 each, while Madeline Shepherd finished with 7.
Lindsay Lawlor has led the Eagles for about half the season as the starting setter and was able to assist 28 kills in the match. Alongside some strategic substitutions, Shepherd also had her share of assists with 10. Both setters were able to find a service ace as well.
Although the Eagles may feel this loss now, their season is not yet over. In addition to this tournament, Judson earned the 6th seed in the CCAC to play against Indiana-South Bend in the first round of the conference tournament on Tuesday, November 8th.
