Diaz Vega and Lawlor Earn CCAC Player of the Week Awards for Incredible Performances Last Week
Chicago, IL. The Judson University Women's Volleyball Team is appropriately being recognized for an impressive undefeated week with two CCAC Players of the Week. Lindsay Lawlor was named CCAC setter of the week, while Kenia Diaz Vega was named CCAC defender of the week. Diaz Vega has now won two weekly awards in two weeks, as she was the NCCAA defender of the week last week.
Diaz Vega averaged nearly five digs per set for the Judson Eagles in their two matches last week to gain CCAC Defender of the Week accolades. The junior defensive specialist recorded 16 digs in a three-set victory against Indiana University Northwest on Tuesday before totaling 22 digs in a five-set win over Cardinal Stritch University on Thursday.
Diaz Vega's 4.75 digs-per-set average over the two matches boosted her season mark to 4.51, which ranks third in the league.
"Kenia has worked hard this season and has earned the position; she has lots of potential," said Head Coach Irick Gardner. "If Kenia realizes that even more is expected of her, she will then potentially become one of the best to have played the position here at Judson. I'm happy for her."
Lawlor was just as impressive in earning CCAC Setter of the Week recognition with her 10.88 assists per set to go along with a 1.63 digs-per-set average over the two matches. The junior provided 38 assists and five digs in the win over Indiana Northwest before coming up with 49 assists, three aces, and eight digs in the Cardinal Stritch victory.
"Lindsay has been one of the best setters in the conference this season," said Gardner. "I'm happy that she earned this well-deserving award."
Judson (14-15, 5-7 CCAC) hosts St. Ambrose in an important conference matchup on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Lindner Fitness Center.
