Pink Out Was a Success as Judson Defeats IU Northwest in 3-Set Match
Elgin, IL The Judson Women's Volleyball Team called tonight's match a "pink out" in support of breast cancer awareness month. Fans and spectators contributed to the cause by wearing pink and supporting both sides of the match. The Eagles were on point defensively and stayed effective offensively to take the win in a quick three sets.
Alyssa Gerzel stayed aggressive throughout the match and ended up leading the Eagles in kills with 17. Also in double digits was Yomailis Fernandez with 12. Middle Emmaline Davey was present at the net as well with 5 kills of her own. Both Carolina Cosme and Lindsay Paulsen had 4 kills in the match.
The defense of the eagles tonight seemed to be unstoppable as it was very hard for the opponent to get the ball to hit the floor. Fernandez led the team in digs with a total of 14. Libero Kenia Diaz Vega had some hard-hit digs and solid reads in the match within her 11 digs. Tying her in digs was Gerzel on the right side. Close behind was Cosme with 8, Lindsay Lawlor with 5, and Davey with 4. Kara Wicklund stepped on the court as well to earn herself an ace alongside Lawlor.
In combination with her digs as well as aggressive serves, Lawlor helped achieve a successful offense racking up 38 assists.
The next time the Eagles hit the court will be for Pack The Place night Thursday against Cardinal Stritch.
