Judson Completes Grandview Tournament With a Win Against Grace Going 2-2 Overall

Des Moines, IA Going into day two of the Grandview Tournament, the Judson Women's Volleyball team was able to finish their weekend competition going 2-2 and 1-1 on the day taking a loss to Mayville 2-3 (19-25,14-25,25-20,25-19,15-17) and a 3-1 win over Grace (23-25,25-22,25-23,25-13).
In the opening match for the day against Mayville State the battle was back and forth between hitters and defending ultimately forcing the final set into extra points. Alyssa Gerzel racked up 25 kills in the match leading the Eagles offensively. She also contributed 19 digs. Behind her was Carolina Cosme with 10 kills, 13 digs, and 2 big solo blocks in the match. Yomailis Fernandez offered 8 kills as well as 18 digs. Kenia Diaz Vega lead the defense as the libero as she managed to rack up 28 digs. Setters Lindsay Lawlor and Madeline Shepherd both had their opportunities in the match both having double-digit assists. Lawlor finished with 40 assists and 10 digs while Shepherd finished with 11 assists and 1 dig.
In the final match of the tournament against Grace, the Eagles stepped it up and found themselves a win. An outstanding performance by Gerzel as she had 21 kills in the match, alongside 4 aces, and 13 digs. Cosme was also in double-digit kills finishing with 15 beside her 8 digs. Fernandez had 7 kills and 13 digs as well. Other kill contributions included Kyah Golding with 3 and Lindsay Paulson with 4. Diaz Vega continues to lead her team in digs as she was as able to save the ball from hitting the floor a total of 26 times. Lawlor contributed a season-high performance in assists. She was able to assist 45 kills as well as 2 service aces, several dump kills of her own, and 5 digs.
The next match for the Eagles will be at home on Tuesday against Indiana Northwest.
