Grand Rapid, MI, The Lady Eagles played to the best of their ability against both IU Kokomo (23-25,11-25,14-25) and Cornerstone University (25-23,22-25,15-25,21-25). Despite not being able to find a win at the Aquinas/Cornerstone invite, the season is just beginning and the Judson Women's Volleyball Team has a lot of fight left in them.
In the match against IU Kokomo, Sophomore Alyssa Gerzel finished with 7 kills, and right behind her was Brielle Wilkins with 6. Along with her 5 kills, Emmaline Davey recorded 2 aces and a solo block for the Eagles. Wilkins also achieved 2 aces as well. Kenia Diaz Vega fulfilled the libero role attributing 8 digs. Setter Lindsay Lawlor fed the offense well racking up 18 assists alongside her 6 digs.
The Eagles were able to take a set away from Cornerstone in Game 2. Both Carolina Cosme and Alyssa Gerzel fought for double-digit kills. Cosme had 14 in the match while Gerzel had 10. The defense was sound as Gerzel led the eagles with 14 digs, Libero Kenia Diaz Vega had 13, and Cosme with 12. Freshman Yomailis Fernandez recorded a season-high 40 assists in the match.
Judson continues their CCAC competition at Indiana South Bend Tuesday 9/13 at 7:00 PM.
