Grand Rapid, MI, Leaving the courts tonight, the Judson Women's Volleyball Team went 0-2 on the day taking losses from both Aquinas and Bellevue. The women kept the game close against Aquinas in a tight 5-set match (13-25,16-25,25-22,25-22,12-15). Following this game was a three-set match against Bellevue (8-25,21-25,18-25).
In the first match against Aquinas, the Eagles fought point for point resulting in three reaching double-digit kills in the match! Alyssa Gerzel continues to lead the eagles racking up 13 kills followed by Emmaline Davey with 12 and Carolina Cosme with 11. Libero Kenia Diaz Vega helped the team defensively with 17 digs. Right behind her was Gerzel with 15 and Cosme with 9. Junior Lindsay Lawlor led her team in assists with 22.
In match two, against Bellevue, the Eagles fell short of a set win as the Bruins were able to keep a commanding lead. Dispite the amount of kills, the individual Eagles finished with impressive hitting percentages as Emmaline Davey went 7/16 with a .312 and Brielle Wilkins went 5/17 with a .235. Kenia Diaz Vega continues to leave the team in digs as she finished will 11 followed by Gerzel with 8 and Carolina Cosme with 7. Splitting the assists for the match, Lindsay Lawlor attributed 11 for the Eagles while freshman Yomailis Fernandez finished with 9.
The Eagles start day 2 of the Aquinas/Cornerstone Invite tomorrow 9/10 at 10:00 AM against IU Kokomo.
