Elgin, IL . It was opening day for the Judson University Women's Volleyball Team and was a thrilling set of matches as they faced Taylor University and William Penn, going 1-1 for the day. In search of their first season win, the Eagles fell short in a quick three-set match against Taylor 22-25, 20-25, 22-25. The second time around, the Eagles brought home a victory against William Penn in a three-set match 25-23, 25-23, 25-22.
Against Taylor, the Eagles stayed within 5 points each, fighting back and forth for the lead, resulting in a tight game. Senior setter Madeline Shepherd contributed 21 assists in the contest. Leading the Eagles in kills was Emmaline Davey with a total of 9 on the match followed by Brielle Wilkins with 8. On the defense, recording 10 digs for the Eagles was libero Kenia Diaz Vega and Carolina Cosme with 9 digs amounting for over half of the digs for the Eagles.
In game two, Brielle Wilkins came out swinging with a total of 11 kills alongside Emmaline Davey with 9 and Alyssa Gerzel with 8. Both setters Madeline Shepherd and Lindsay Lawlor completed the match double-digit assists. Aces were frequent with Alyssa Gerzel, Carolina Cosme, and Lindsay Lawlor having one of their own. Junior libero Kenia Diaz Vega led the Eagles defensively with 13 digs and an impressive performance.
The Eagles will be back on the court in Palos Heights, IL for the TIU/TCC Invitational on Friday 8/26 as they face Michigan-Dearborn and Webber International. Conference play begins on Thursday 9/1 against Calumet.
