Women's tennis competes in IWU Wildcat Classic
Marion, IN - The Judson University Women's Tennis team travelled to Indiana Wesleyan for the IWU Wildcat Classic this past weekend. This invitational consisted of 3 top Indiana programs and Judson University. The Eagles began action on Friday with a loss to Indiana Tech University. The Eagles dropped all three doubles matches to lose the doubles point. All three matches were played to clinch (match is over when four points are reached). The Eagles fought hard in singles, but ultimately ended up losing three singles matches leading Indiana Tech to clinch the match at 4-0.
Later in the day, the women's team took on Indiana Wesleyan University. IWU was ranked #9 in the final polls of 2019 and have an unblemished record this year with a perfect 14-0 record. The Eagles fought hard in doubles, but ultimately lost all 3 doubles matches, which gave IWU the doubles point. Sofia Corona Garza (JR/Mexico City, Mexico) and Lizeth Medina Diaz (SO/Ixtapan De La Sal) fought hard at #1 doubles, but ultimately went on to lose 4-6. The Eagles also dropped #2 and #3 doubles, losing the overall doubles point. Once again, the Eagles fought hard in singles, but ended up losing three singles matches leading IWU to clinch the match at 4-0.
In Judson's final match of the weekend, they faced Indiana Southeast. The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead after doubles, with Sofia Corona Garza and Lizeth Medina Diaz winning at #1 doubles by a score of 6-4 and #3 doubles receiving a walkover. Judson ultimately won the match 4-3 receiving wins in singles by Lizeth Medina Diaz (7-5, 7-6 (8-6)) and Sofia Corona Garza (2-6, 6-4. 6-1) and a walkover at #6 singles.
