Kissimmee, FL - 53 seconds is all it took for the Eagles to make their move at the NCCAA National Championships. As the #1 seed, Judson took on Asbury in their first pool play match on the six team tournament on Monday afternoon.
Judson wasted no time, as in the first minute of the match, the threat Yeyahs Macias struck early with a goal into the back of the net to put the Eagles up 1-0. The goal was set up from a pretty pass from Maria Artaloitia. One minute later, the speedster Macias struck again beating the goalkeeper off of a set up pass from Isabella Garrelts. Just like that, the Eagles were up 2-0.
Macias, who led the Eagles in goals this year with 9, has proven capable to always take one to the house. It was her first goals since October 5th, ending a nine game drought. Often, JU goes as Macias goes, and Monday was no different.
Judson controlled the pace for the most part, outshooting Asbury 5-4 in the first half, and 12-8 overall.
Daisy Garcia had two of the Eagles' seven shots on goal in the contest.
In net for JU was ole steady, Eva Fernandez. She was credited with just two saves as Asbury only managed two shots on goal. This 2-0 victory was Fernandez' 7th shutout on the year.
Judson will now have Tuesday off before matching up with the #4 seed Bethel Pilots on Wednesday afternoon. These two teams met earlier this year on September 7th at Bethel, with the home team taking home the 1-0 victory. These two teams also met at the end of the 2022 season in an NCCAA Regional game with the Eagles winning 3-1 in that match.
On Wednesday, look for another close contest with perhaps a spot in the NCCAA National Championship game on the line.
