South Bend, IN - A week ago, after a loss to IU-Northwest, things looked bleak for the Eagles' playoff chances. They were on the outside looking in, with just two games to go. Then, mid week, they were down at halftime in a game where they needed a victory. Fast forward to Saturday afternoon, and all is well for the Eagles.
After a huge comeback midweek against St. Xavier, JU concluded the regular season with a 2-0 victory over IU-South Bend to secure the 6th seed in the CCAC playoffs beginning next week.
With the win, Judson finished the regular season 5-4-8 overall, and 4-2-5 in conference play.
The Eagles got a goal in each half against IU-SB. The first goal was scored by Kelly Leon, and assisted by Payton Siragusa and Isabella Garrelts. For Leon, it was her 7th goal of the season, tied for second on the team. Siragusa's assist added to her solid point week with two goals and an assist on Wednesday.
The second half goal was put in by Maria Artaloitia. It was her third of the season; assisted by Leon and Stephanie Naskrent (Freund).
Eva Fernandez was solid in net with 5 saves.
After a bit of a goal slump, the Eagles may be peaking at just the right time with now 6 goals over their last two games.
The CCAC playoffs on the women's side begin on Wednesday with JU likely traveling to St. Francis for a quarterfinal match. The time is TBD.
