Elgin, IL - The first senior day celebration of the year saw the Eagles' Women's Soccer Team recognize 11 players on this afternoon. From four-year program members, to annual leaders, and heartbeats of the team, this class of seniors is well decorated. Aside from on field play, this group of players really left their mark on the soccer program within the community.
This year's senior group included: #2 Shelsea Cardenas, #00 Angel Burke, #8 Lillie Whitehead, #18 Giselle Lopez, #5 Lena Fehrenbach, #23 Susan Kirsh, #9 Denise Jimenez, #31 Maria Artaloitia, #7 Payton Siragusa, #21 Yeyahs Macias, and #25 co-captain Kelly Leon.
For the game, the Eagles took on Viterbo. The first half was a stale mate, as JU was held to just three shots.
In the second half, Viterbo was able to find the net first in the 55th minute. But in the 73rd minute, Kelly Leon was able to break through to tie the game. On the goal, she was assisted by Yeyahs Macias. Judson had a couple of close calls throughout the match, with two shots hitting the post, and another goal waved off by an offsides call. But Leon was finally able to get one on the scoreboard.
The goal was Leon's fifth of the season, which is third most on the team.
In goal, Eva Fernandez was credited with seven saves.
Judson has five games left in the regular season. Every point is crucial for JU as the middle of the pack is very bunched for the CCAC standings.
