Elgin, IL - On a early Tuesday kick time, the Eagles played host to the St. Thomas (FL) Bobcats at Dawson Field. The Bobcats are receiving votes in the NAIA National Poll, so the match projected to be a good test for Judson.
St. Thomas got out to a very fast start with two goals in the game's first 15 minutes. The Bobcats really controlled the early part of the game as the Eagles found their footing.
With 15 minutes to go in the half, the Eagles were able to get on the scoreboard thanks to a penalty kick from Daisy Garcia. Garcia was able to beat the goalkeeper, finding the left corner for her third goal of the season.
Judson was held without a corner kick in the contest, and were outshot by St. Thomas 16-6 in the game. The Eagles were able to lean on some very solid defense by Stephanie Naskrent and Mara Quintero. After a light day on Saturday, goalie Eva Fernandez was tested as well. She tallied 9 saves on 11 shots on goal.
In the second half, Judson was able to tie the game with yet another goal off of the foot of senior Yeyahs Macias. The game-tying goal is her 6th of the season, as she has scored in all 4 games thus far.
The Eagles had a couple of chances late in the second half that may have been thwarted by some questionable calls. But, in the end, JU was able to take home a tie in the first ever meeting between the two schools.
Judson now sits at 1-0-3 on the season with their next game coming on Saturday at Bethel in their first road match.
