Elgin, IL - The Eagles were back on the pitch for game two at Dawson on this Welcome Weekend afternoon. JU hosted the Clarke University Pride in what was an exciting finish.
In the first half, Clarke controlled most of the half with position and pace. The Pride outshot the Eagles 12-1 in the half. But, the old saying, "it only takes one." As the Eagles' lone shot from Yeyahs Macias found the back of the net on a deflected ball. For the second consecutive game, JU took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Clarke came out of the break fast, as they tied the game within the first minute of the second half.
Again controlling pace, the Pride took the lead in the 52nd minute.
It was looking grim for Judson until an 85th minute corner kick for the Eagles was set up by senior Kelly Leon. Putting a pretty arc on the ball, the corner kick, with the help of a goalie deflection, found the back of the net to tie the score at 2 apiece.
The excitement was just beginning. With 3 minutes left on the clock, Judson was called for a foul resulting in a penalty shot for the Pride. Goalie Eva Fernandez dove to her right to block the shot, and then quickly dove back to her left to block a rebound shot attempt. Those full-extension plays saved the day for the Eagles, and for the second straight game, came away with a draw when the clock struck zero.
For the game, the sophomore Fernandez tallied 13 total saves.
Clarke outshot the Eagles 22-6 for the game, but Judson certainly made their limited attempts count.
Judson is back in action next Saturday, when they host Waldorf.
