Kissimmee, FL The sixth-seeded Judson University Women's Soccer Team scored a go-ahead goal in the 85th minute to defeat ninth-seeded Southwestern Christian 1-0 and earn a much-needed three points in pool play.
Alex Wawrzyniak received a pass from Kelly Leon and shot a ball past the goalkeeper in the left portion of the goal to give the Eagles the lead. Judson outshot SWCU 8-4 in total and 4-1 in shots on goal. Judson's effort finally paid off as the Eagles' late goal puts the Eagles in a position to control their own destiny. Alondra Blanco led the team with three shots, one of which was on the net. Both of Wawrzyniak's shots were on goal for Judson. Morgan Olsen saved one shot to record the clean sheet. Judson did not commit a single foul in the contest.
Judson is 1-0-0 in pool play and will face off against Grace at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles need a victory to ensure advancement into the semifinal round.
