Eagles Grab Victory In Closing Minutes
Whiting, IN - In a nail-biting conference matchup, the Judson University Eagles secured a narrow victory over Calumet College Crimson Wave with a final score of 57-53 on January 18th at the Rittenmeyer Center. The Eagles, led by a standout performance from Brooke Heiman, improved their season record to 5-13 overall.
The game was highly competitive, with Judson maintaining just a one-point lead at halftime, standing at 29-28. Heiman soared high with an impressive 20 points, leading the scoring for Judson. She received ample support from Allyssa Potter and Demiah Hawkins, who contributed 13 and 11 points respectively. In addition to her scoring prowess, Hawkins also dominated the boards with 13 rebounds.
The entire team showcased their defensive skills, notably Paula Bernal Rodrigalvarez, who tallied up 5 steals and 6 rebounds, further stifling the Crimson Wave's offensive efforts. Jayda Centeno and Madison Carlson also contributed with crucial steals and points that kept the lead in favor of the Eagles.
Judson led most of the way, and with five minutes to go in regulation, the game was tied after a made layup by Potter. The Eagles were down four with two minutes go and things looking bleak. Heiman was able to rattle in a three-pointer to close the gap to one with a minute to go. A couple of free throws by Heiman, and a layup by Potter was able to seal the win for the Eagles.
This victory provides a much-needed boost to the Eagles who have been hit hard by the injury bug this season. JU will now prepare to face Saint Xavier in Chicago on January 22nd.
