Potter Rains Down Threes In NYE Victory
Elgin, IL - On the final day of the calendar, the Eagles played host to one final game inside of the nest. On this day, they welcomed in the Dominican Stars, their 4th opponent versus an NCAA Division III team. The Eagles came out playing really well, winning the first three individual quarters en route to a blowout victory 76-56. It is one of the largest victories in recent memory for JU.
One of the catalysts for the team, especially in the first half was guard Brooke Heiman. The scrappy winger found her way to several loose balls, and in turn, easy buckets. Still, for Heiman no bucket is not always the easiest as she is constantly crashing into defenders and the ground. Her hard nose play has been a highlight thus far for this team. Heiman nearly went for a double-double scoring 16 points with 9 rebounds.
Perhaps the star of the game, against the Stars, was sharp-shooter Allyssa Potter as she had the range dialed in for the afternoon. Potter went 9-13 from the field, and 7-10 from three-point range leading to 25 points. It was very nearly a record setting performance as the school record for most three pointers in a game stands at eight. Potter came close with her seven made baskets, but will settle for second on the program history list; at least for now.
It was kind of a slow start to the season shooting wise for Potter, but has conference play starts to turn up, perhaps this game will lead to a hot streak for the sophomore. Her 79 career three pointers are well on the way to reaching the record books at this trajectory.
With the win, the Eagles go into the new year at 4-9 overall.
Demiah Hawkins did tally a double-double in the win with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Making the start, Jessica Meyer also added a double digit scoring effort with 10 points.
The Eagles will start the new year on Saturday when they host CCAC foe Trinity Christian.
