Eagles Split, Close Out 3-1 Opening Weekend
Branson, Mo - After an opening double header sweep at the Branson Bash, the Judson Eagles looked to turn the trick again on Saturday. In a tough wind, the Eagles did most of their work in the first inning for the third consecutive game.
Against Sterling, Tatyana Chavez and Braly Wiser were able to start a rally, and scored on a big two-out double by Madelynn Petty to take an early 2-0 lead.
After Sterling cut into a 3-0 lead and made things 3-2 going into the 4th inning, the Eagles were able to respond with a huge six run inning.
The inning saw RBI singles by Cynthia Alvillar, Wiser, Petty, and Annie Saran to put the game into the comfort zone.
For the game, Petty was 2-2 with 4 RBIs and a walk. Saran, Wiser, and Alvillar joined her with 2 hits each.
It was a hot 4-game weekend for both Alvillar and Wiser who really paced the Judson offense.
In the circle, Katherine Hrinda was strong again, pitching four innings, allowing four hits, and two runs. She struck out three batters. Abigael Marines pitched the final three innings for the save. JU went on to win the game 9-4.
In their first three games, the Eagles never trailed en route to their first three victories.
For game two, Judson did fall to Evangel 7-1. The offense was slowed a bit, being held to just three hits in the game, and an even stronger wind.
The game also saw a long-last debut from Madi Palmatier who worked her way all the way back from hip surgery a season ago.
Judson will play 4 games at the Rosemont Dome next weekend for their next game action on the schedule.
