Eagles Split With TIU to Begin Weekend
Elgin, Ill. The Judson University Eagles split a doubleheader to begin their four-game weekend as the Eagles took game one 6-2 and fell in the nightcap 8-7.
In game one, Judson got the offense going early with a pair of runs in each of the first two frames. Sarah Herbert hit a two-run single in the first inning. In the second, Lexi Knowles and Stephanie Hause had RBI singles to extend the Eagles' lead. For insurance, Gigi Velazquez (sac fly) and Braly Wiser (single) had RBIs in the fifth inning to pull away. Amelia Jimenz pitched a complete game, allowing only two earned runs on 10 hits while striking out three and walking two.
In game two, Judson overcame a 2-0 deficit by scoring three runs in the fourth thanks to a Velasquez two-run single and an Angelica Vasquez RBI double. In the fifth, Amaya Chavez hit a three-run bomb to give Judson a 6-3 lead. TIU came back with four runs in the sixth and seventh to take a 7-6 lead, but Herbert hit a solo shot to make it 7-7. TIU hit a home run in the eighth and Judson could not answer. Sophie Schomer (1-7) allowed seven runs (eight earned) on nine hits while striking out three and walking two.
Judson (7-15, 4-6 CCAC) faces SXU on Saturday at 11 for a doubleheader.
