Greater Orlando, FL The Judson University Softball Team finished their Florida trip on a high note as the Eagles took down Dordt 7-6. The Eagles took two of three from Dordt. Judson's loss to Dordt came in an 11-0 loss on Thursday. To cap Thursday, Judson fell to Spring Arbor 8-7 in 9 innings, and the Eagles fell to Northwestern (OH) 10-0 to begin Friday's slate.
In Thursday's contest against Dordt, Judson had four hits in the contest. Tatyana Chavez had a pair of doubles, while Naomi Sweeney and Lexie Knowles each had one single apiece for the Eagles. Amelia Jimenez took the loss as she pitched 4.0 innings allowing six earned runs on nine hits while striking out two and walking one.
Later on that day, Judson lost a heartbreaker to Spring Arbor. The Eagles Took leads off 1-0, 6-1, and 7-6 before falling in extra innings. Judson's first run came in the fourth inning on an Autumn Johanningsmeier RBI single. Stephanie Hause, Gigi Velazquez, Johanningsmeier, and Naomi Sweeney each had RBIs in the fifth inning during a five-run rally. Sarah Herbert gave Judson a brief lead in the eighth on a Sarah Herbert double, but the Eagles surrendered a single tally in the eighth and ninth to conclude the contest. Sophie Schomer pitched all 8.2 innings allowing six earned runs on 17 hits while striking out three and walking one.
Against Northwestern Ohio, Judson had a pair of hits from Herbert and Amelia Jimenez. Jimenez pitched 5.0 innings and allowed nine earned runs (10 total) and struck out six in the contest.
In the victory against Dordt, Judson was able to come back from behind late to defeat the Defenders. Tatyana Chavez hit an RBI single in the first inning to give Judson an early lead. Judson scored three runs on a pair of fielder's choices in the second inning from Naomi Sweeney and Amaya Chavez. Chavez scored on a passed pall later in the inning to make the score 5-2. Dordt scored four times between the second and third innings to take a 6-5 lead. Amaya Chavez hit an RBI triple in the sixth and then scored on an error to give the Eagles the 7-6 lead, and eventually the win. Angelica Vasquez pitched five innings, allowing four hits and three walks and striking out one.
Judson (3-9) faces Calumet on March 24 to open the conference slate.
