Leesburg, FL The Judson University Softball Team has begun their schedule with four games this weekend against Mt. Vernon Nazarene (Friday-Saturday, 8-0, 9-0, 7-1 losses) and Spring Arbor (14-3 loss).
In Friday's opener against MVNU, the Eagles had six hits in the contest. Sarah Herbert led the way with two, while Amaya Chavez, Gigi Velazquez, and Amelia Jimenez each had one. Amelia Jimenez pitched for the Eagles and had a strikeout and gave up five earned runs (eight total) in 5.1 innings of work.
In the second game, Judson's lone hit came from Autumn Johanningsmeier in a pinch-hitting situation. Kennedy Dietz made her season debut as she struck out one and walked one (six earned runs allowed) in 4.1 innings of work. Vasquez came in relief and allowed two runs in 1.2 innings of relief.
In Saturday's opener, Judson scored its first run of the season on a Stephanie Hause sacrifice fly that scored Allie Arwood. Johanningsmeier once again had the one hit for Judson in the contest. Sophie Schomer made her season debut and allowed two earned runs (five total) in four innings and struck out one. Dietz came in relief and allowed two runs in a pair of innings.
Against Spring Arbor, Judson scored all three of their runs in the third inning. Amaya Chavez had a RBI double, Sarah Herbert had an RBI single, and Kennedy Dietz had an RBI single. Gigi Velazquez had two hits for the Eagles. Jimenez struck out one in an inning of work allowing nine earned runs. Kennedy Dietz pitched four innings allowing three earned runs and struck out two in four innings of work.
Judson (0-4) has Sunday off prior to facing Penn State-New Kensington and Carlow on Monday.
