Melchiorre goes 3-4 in Game One in Eagles' Doubleheader Split Against TCC
Elgin, Ill. The Judson University Softball Team split a doubleheader on Saturday defeating Trinity Christian 7-6 (8 innings) and falling to the Trolls 7-2.
In the opener, Judson scored twice in the opening frame on an error and an Autumn Johanningsmeier RBI single. In the third, Judson extended its lead on singles by Johanningsmeier and Andi Stephens. The Eagles also had a two-run RBI double from Naomi Sweeney in the frame to give Judson a 6-1 lead. TCC would score three in the fourth and single tallies in the fifth and sixth to tie the contest. The Eagles in the eighth inning scored a run when Gabby Melchiorred on a Sarah Herbet batted ball that was an error from the Trolls shortstop. Melchiorre went 3-4 to lead Judson with two runs scored. Johanningsmeier, Tatyana Chavez, and Sarah Herbert had two-hit games for Judson. Sophie Schomer earned the win as she pitched all eight innings, allowing five earned runs (six total) on 13 hits while striking out two and walking none.
In the second game, Sarah Herbert got the Eagles on the board in the top of the first on an RBI single. Judson's other tally was a CJ Adams RBI hit. Judson had three hits in the ballgame as Herbert, Adams, and Chavez had the base knocks. Kennedy Dietz pitched 5.2 innings, allowing seven runs on 10 hits while walking three and striking out two. Schomer got the lone batter out that she faced in relief.
Judson (5-21-1, 3-13 CCAC) faces #23 St. Xavier on the road on Sunday.
