Chavez with First Collegiate Homer in Doubleheader Loss to Roosevelt
Elgin, Ill. The Judson University Softball Team played their first home doubleheader on Friday as the Eagles lost to Roosevelt twice 4-2 and 16-2.
In the opener, Judson scored runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Andi Stephens had a solo home run to center field in the fifth inning, while GiGi Velazquez hit a single that eventually plated Jocelyn Mitchell via an error. Gabbi Melchiorre and Sarah Herbert each had two hits for the Eagles in the contest, while Velazquez, Stephens, Naomi Sweeney, Bella Lodico, and Britney Sanchez each had one. Bella Lodico pitched 7 innings, allowing an earned run (four total) on eight hits, while striking out one and walking two.
In the nightcap, Judson's Tatyana Chavez hit her first collegiate home run with a shot to center field that also drove in Velazquez. Chavez had a pair of hits for Judson, while Britney Sanchez and Velaquez had the other two. Sophie Schomer gave up six earned runs in three innings of total work striking out three and walking two. Kennedy Dietz pitched two innings for Judson, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits, while walking two.
Judson faces Cardinal Stritch on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
