Eight Runs in Final Two Frames Lead to Split Versus Calumet
Whiting, IN. The Judson University Softball Team finished with a split against Calumet on Thursday as the Crimson Wave took game one 8-4, while Judson took the back half of the twin bill by the score of 12-9.
In the opener, Judson got on the board with a Sarah Herbert RBI double in the third inning. Judson scored twice in the sixth inning with RBI hits from Gigi Velazquez (double) and Autumn Johanningsmeier (single). In the seventh, Herbert had yet another RBI hit with a single. Kennedy Dietz pitched 4.0 innings, allowing six earned runs on nine hits while walking three and striking out one. Sophie Schomer allowed two earned runs on three hits while walking one in two innings of work.
In the evening contest, Judson trailed 9-4 heading into the sixth. Judson began a rally with RBI hits from Herbert, Andi Stephens, and Schomer. Velazquez and Johanninsmeier had RBI hits in the seventh to help Judson seal the win. Herbert had three hits in each game and had five total RBI. Velasquez and Stephens had two RBI apiece in the second contest. Schomer helped herself out at the plate with three hits. Bella Lodico got the start, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on nine hits while walking two and striking out two. Schomer pitched 4.1 innings allowing no hits while walking one and striking out one.
Judson (4-14-1, 2-6 CCAC) faces Roosevelt for two on Friday.
