The Judson University Athletic Department is excited to announce its new director of running. With the start of the new school year here in August, Jimmie E. Hawthorne Jr. will take over the duties of Head Coach of both the Eagles’ Men’s and Women’s Track and Field, and Cross Country teams.

Prior to arriving on campus in Elgin, Coach Hawthorne had an impressive run as the Head Girls Track Coach at Niles North High School from 2005-2023. His coaching journey also includes being a Football and Track coach from 2003-2005 at Elmhurst College.

“With this being my first year at Judson, I am very excited and honored for the opportunity to lead this program. There are some talented athletes here that are ready to get started.”

Coach Hawthorne grew up in the Lonestar state, in Grand Prairie Texas. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Sul Ross State University (TX) in 1995, and a Master’s Degree from Amberton University (TX) in 2001.

Coach Hawthorne is no stranger to collegiate competition. He was a Letterman Defensive Back at Iowa Wesleyan College before finishing up at Sul Ross State University. In addition, he was also a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc in 1996.

"Coach Hawthorne brings to Judson decades of experience making a positive impact in the lives of young athletes. As a coach, trainer, teacher, and community Leader we are blessed to have him join our coaching staff," says Athletic Director Rick Williams.

Now, Coach Hawthorne plants his roots in Illinois with his wife Yolanda. They have two daughters, Jasmin and Morgan, along with one grandson, Caleb.

Coach Hawthorne hopes that the Eagles “fly” in more ways than one when meets begin. Be sure to follow @judsoneagles and @judsonxctf for all of the team’s news and updates.
