Mayer and Chumba With Top-15 Finishes at Bethel Invitational

Mayer and Chumba With Top-15 Finishes at Bethel Invitational

Mishawaka, IN. The Judson University Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams participated in the Bethel University Cross Country Invitational on Friday. The Men's team finished eighth out of 13 teams, while the women fininshed 10th out of 15 teams. Marie finished 11th in a good field and Josphat finished 10th.

The course had a little bit of everything including some flat sections, hilly and narrow in other sections which created a true cross country course

Each team had a runner that finished in the top 15 spots. On the Women's side, Marie Mayer had an 11th-place finish with a time of 19:31.50 in the 5k race, while Josphat Chumba finised in 10th place with a total time of 26:46.00 in the 8k race.

Kasey Moreno finished with a time of 20:37.10 to finish 39th overall. Judson had several runners finish between the 22:00 and 22:30 time frame. Nayeli Cisneros finished 89th with a time of 22:09.40. Eva Serrato finished at 22:26.00 to finish 101st, and Maria Alrcon fininshed at 22:30.10 to place 104th.

The men's team got delayed by almost an hour and a half due to thunderstorms in the area. With heavy rain in the area, the course was very muddy and wet. Despite this, the men's team ran very well.

Judson had four runners which finished between the 28:30 and 29:00-minute marks. Kyle Braund fininshed 45th overall with a 28:35.60 time. Gage Fox was 55th with a 28:49.40 time. Jonathan Jasso was 58th with a 28:55.80 mark, and Jaret Godinez came in at the 29:00.70 mark to place 64th.

The men improved their team-best time by 1:55 from last meet on a much harder course. Braund, Fox, Jasso, and Trevor Murray (44:55.40, 129th) all had personal records.

"I was happy with both of their races and that should give them confidence going forward," said Head Coach Cam Knudsen. "We have a huge training block until our next race. We look forward to continuing to progress in the coming races."

Judson returns to action on October 23 in the Great Lakes Invite at Aquinas in Grand Rapids, MI.
