Donnell Headlines UW-Parkside Track & Field Classic
KENOSHA, Wis. -- Jennifer Donnell (SO/Schaumburg, IL) has continued her success off the volleyball court and into the shot put ring having met the NAIA qualifying "B" standard for indoor track this past weekend. Donnell's year has consisted of helping the women's volleyball team back to the NCCAA National Championships in the Fall after 20 years, and now continues with a NAIA Indoor qualifying mark in women's shot put.
Donnell was the headline for the women's field events with her qualifying "B" standard as she placed fifth with a mark of 12.84m (42'1.5"). Alisha Barnaby (SR/Des Plaines, Ill.) added to the women's success as she finished sixth in both the women's shot put and women's weight throw. Barnaby finished with a mark of 12.10m (39'8.5") in shot put and 14.22m (46'8") in weight throw.
The women's distance medley relay team, which consisted of Julia Popenfoose (FR/Brownsburg, IN), Savannah Henn (SO/Huntley, IL), Kristi McClure (JR/Wilmington, DE), and Krista Peterson (SR/Roscommon, MI) placed second with a time of 14:34.57. Overall the women finished with 24 points and placed eighth out of 15 teams.
Tom Rohn (SR/Cary, IL) was the top runner for Judson last Saturday as he won the men's 400m dash with a time of 51.58. The men's distance medley relay team also had a great run as Caleb Fletcher (SO/Lake Fenton, MI), Dietrich Heiss (SO/Beloit, WI), Joe Sipiorski, and Nick Modlin placed second with a time of 11:33.84. John Majerus (SR/Elk Grove Village, IL), Joseph Sipiorski, Caleb Fletcher, Dietrich Heiss continued the success of the relay teams for Judson as their 4 x 800 time of 8:31.23 found them a fourth place finish.
Stephen Galloway (SR/LaPorte, IN) was a top finisher in the men's field events with a fourth place finish in the men's high jump. Galloway finished his jump at 1.70m (5'7"). Overall the men finished with 29 points and placed seventh of 18 teams.
Coach Popenfoose added, "This meet was a great tune up for the Chicagoland Indoor Championships next weekend which, year in and year out, is the best competition we face outside of NAIA Nationals. This was also an eye opener and a stretching experience for some of our younger athletes competing against DI competition for the first time."
UP NEXT: The Judson Indoor Track and Field teams will travel to Naperville, IL on Friday and Saturday as they compete in the Chicagoland Indoor T&F Championships. The women will compete at 5pm on Friday, Feb. 12th, and the men will compete at 11:30am on Saturday, Feb. 13th.
