Eagles Fall In CCAC Semi-Final
Bourbonnais, Ill. – The Judson University men's tennis team battled throughout the afternoon on Friday but came up short against Olivet Nazarene University, falling 4-0 in the CCAC Conference Semifinal. With the loss, the Eagles' conference tournament run comes to an end, but they still have one more match remaining this season.
Judson came out strong in doubles, with Chadd Kerrigan and Joshua Bavich picking up a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Despite the early momentum, Olivet Nazarene responded by winning the matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead into singles.
In singles play, the Eagles continued to fight hard. Chadd Kerrigan battled at No. 1 singles before falling 7-5, 6-2. Javier Sanchez started strong at No. 5 singles, winning the first set 6-2, but dropped a tough three-set match, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, Brayden Kopp competed well but ultimately fell 6-0, 6-4.
Several matches remained unfinished when the overall result was decided. Nicolas Donoso was tied 4-4 in the third set at No. 2 singles, Joshua Bavich was tied 5-5 in the third set at No. 3 singles, and Cesar Otondo was battling at 3-4 in the third set at No. 6 singles.
The Eagles showed tremendous heart and fight throughout the semifinal. Judson will close out their season on Thursday, May 2, when they travel to take on nationally ranked Huntington University in their final match of the year.
