Elkhart, IN – The Judson men's tennis team traveled to Indiana to take on NAIA program Bethel. This match was a rescheduled match from an earlier postponement.
After falling 5-2 in last year's matchup, the Eagles came in hungry for revenge—and delivered a strong performance against a team currently receiving national votes.
Starting off strong at No. 3 doubles, Brock Dawson and Brayden Kopp secured a quick 6-2 win. Chadd Kerrigan and Josh Bavich then clinched the doubles point at the top spot with a 6-4 victory. Wrapping up the Eagles' sweep in doubles, Cesar Otondo Villafan and Nicolas Donoso battled through a tight set to win 7-6.
Heading into singles, the Eagles looked to build on their early momentum—and junior Josh Bavich did just that, cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3. With Judson up 2-0, senior Chadd Kerrigan extended the lead with a 7-6, 6-1 victory. Clinching the match was Nicolas Donoso, who continued his stellar form following his recent "Conference Player of the Week" honor, winning 6-7, 6-4, 10-5.
Freshman Javier Sanchez added another point at No. 5 with a solid performance. The Eagles' only two losses came at the No. 4 and No. 6 spots, both in tight three-set tiebreaks.
Looking ahead, the Eagles will face St. Ambrose in their second conference match of the season as they aim to build momentum heading into Senior Day on Tuesday against Olivet Nazarene.
