Eagles Complete 5-1 Spring Trip
Hilton Head, S.C. – The Judson University men's tennis team continued its dominant run, securing a hard-fought victory against NAIA opponent Midland University at Bluffton High School in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Eagles, riding a wave of momentum, extended their winning streak to four matches with a thrilling performance marked by resilience and grit.
Judson set the stage early by sweeping all three doubles matches, gaining a crucial advantage heading into singles play. The No. 1 doubles duo of Chadd Kerrigan and Joshua Bavich fought off a tough challenge from Benjamin Starman and Joren Stevens, prevailing 7-5.
At No. 2 doubles, Nicolas Donoso and Cesar Otondo Villafan delivered a commanding 6-2 win over Daniel Liebig and Jaime De Diego, while Brock Dawson and Florian Koppitsch sealed the sweep with another 6-2 victory against Andrew Hammer and Martin Cisneros at No. 3 doubles.
With momentum on their side, the Eagles entered singles play with confidence. However, Midland did not go down without a fight, forcing multiple matches into decisive third-set super tiebreakers.
At No. 1 singles, Chadd Kerrigan staged an impressive comeback after dropping the first set, rallying to defeat Joren Stevens in a tense super tiebreak (4-6, 6-3, [10-?]). Nicolas Donoso and Josh Bavich also found themselves in grueling three-set battles, each holding their nerve in super tiebreaks to secure key wins for Judson.
While the Eagles celebrated multiple comeback victories, No. 4 singles suffered a heartbreaking loss, coming up just short in a closely contested match. Despite the setback, Judson's depth shined through in the final two singles matches.
Javier Sanchez dominated at No. 5 singles, cruising past Andrew Hammer with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 victory. Cesar Otondo Villafan capped off the performance in style at No. 6 singles, overwhelming Cayden Brandner-Stanton 6-1, 6-0 to seal the team win.
The Eagles also took on Salve Regina, winning 6-1 to complete their spring break trip. With another statement victory under their belt, Judson continues its impressive run. The team looks to carry its winning momentum into the next match back home, and extend its streak even further.
