Eagles Take Down Old Division Rival
Crystal Lake, IL - The Judson Eagles men's tennis team took on former conference rival and now strengthened D2 school Roosevelt University. In a Sunday afternoon encounter, the Eagles sought to build upon their strong performance against Indiana Wesleyan.
Hosting at the Crystal Lake Racket Club, Judson started off firing, securing the doubles point through two strong victories: Chadd Kerrigan and Joshua Bavich won 6:2 on court number 1. Brock Dawson and Florian Koppitsch clinched the doubles point through a 6:1 win at court number 3.
Once again taking an early lead the Eagles were able to take their confidence into the singles play. Nicolas Donoso and Joshua Bavich keep great form, getting solid victories at number 2 and 3 singles.
Nicolas Donoso beat Roosevelt freshman Filip Stojanoski 6:3 6:2, and team captain Joshua Bavich managed to get a 6:2 6:2 victory in impressive fashion. Taking an early 3:0 lead, it was Roosevelt who took control of the match winning at court 4 and bringing the contest back to 3:2 through a nail-biting match at court 1 in favor of Roosevelt.
Coming down to the last two matches, Roosevelt managed to level the match in a competitive match at court 5 before it was Cesar Otondo Villafan who brought Judson the much-needed deciding point in an epic 4:6 6:4 10:7 victory.
Next up for the Eagles is another home encounter on the fourth of March against McHenry County. Having a week off now the team keeps prepping for their Spring Break trip to Hilton Head where they will be facing tough competition across the board.
