Eagles Win Back And Forth Match
South Barrington, IL- This Thursday the Judson University Eagles Men's Tennis team faced NAIA rival Indiana Wesleyan. Coming off two straight wins, Indiana Wesleyan seemed to be a real test for the Eagles. After facing tough competition in previous matches, the Eagles waited eagerly to get their first win of the spring season.
Therefore, the match held at the South Barrington Club promised fierce competition and great performances by our Judson Eagles.
Starting off strong, Judson secured the doubles points through two strong showings from Joshua Bavich and Chadd Kerrigan at no.1 doubles, and Florian Koppitsch and Brock Dawson, both pairs posting a convincing 6:4 win. Going into singles play the eagles looked to add on their lead.
Fighting hard on all 6 courts, it was Indiana Wesleyan who managed to strike first through winning two close matches at number 1 and number 4 singles. However, through two strong performances Judson managed to take the lead again through a 7:6 7:6 victory by Nicolas Donoso and a comeback victory by team captain Joshua Bavich, who put up a hard fight with a rewarding win of 6:7 6:3 10:6, and who stated: "Really happy to get the win today and keep a good level for 3 sets. The boys fought well all round, just looking forward to a big season.". Coming down to the last two matches, it was freshman Javier Sanchez who managed to comeback after a tough first set and secure Judson the victory through a 1:6 7:5 10:7 win.
Another three set win for Indiana Wesleyan at court 6 brought us the final score of 4:3 in favor of our Judson Eagles.
Coach DeHaan's thoughts on the team's performance: "I am very pleased with how well the team played. They battled hard and found a way to defeat a strong team."
On the mission to keep building momentum, the Eagles will face former conference rival, Roosevelt University in another home match on Sunday, February 23.
