Elgin, IL - The 2024 season did not get off to a flying start for the Eagles after an opening 2-2 tie where the tying goal was scored in the final 3 minutes, and a home opening shutout. But since that time the Eagles have played solid on both sides of the ball.
Judson enters the CCAC playoffs as the #2 seed with a 10-3-5 record overall, and 7-0-3 conference record. They will host the #7 seed Holy Cross Saints. In an earlier matchup, these two teams tied 1-1 at Holy Cross. Now the action shifts to Dawson Field where JU had an impressive run with a 9-1-1 record. The lone home defeat was that opener vs Clarke.
Co-captain Gabriel Uno was the team's leading goal scorer in the regular season with seven. Joao Caetano was second with five goals, and Fernando Nkumah in third with four goals.
Ovidio Paez led the team in assists with five, Caetano and Pablo Escobar tied for second with four each.
Uno led the team in total points with 17 while Caetano was just behind him with 14.
A preview of the Eagles team would be incomplete without mentioning the defense. Ivan Dominguez started all 18 games in goal for Judson. While he only was credited with 45 saves all year, but he only faced 59 total shots. Perhaps the most impressive stat is of the 18 games played this year by JU, 10 of them were shutouts. They only allowed three goals during conference play.
On their home turf, the Eagles will look to start strong, establish an early lead, then let the defense control the pace.
Should Judson win, they will host the winner of the Trinity Christian vs St. Xavier match on Monday November 11th. A Championship appearance would take place on Thursday November 14th, either hosting a lower seed, or traveling to the #1 seed Jaguars of Governor State.
