Elgin, IL - With just a few games left in the regular season, it was Senior Day for the Eagles' Men's Soccer Team. On Saturday afternoon, they hosted IU-Northwest.
Coming off an unexpected tie, the Eagles were back on home turf, and got back to their winning ways. Judson got a goal in each half to win the match 2-0. JU is now 9-3-5 overall, and 6-0-3 in conference play.
The first half goal was scored by senior Joao Caetano, his fifth of the year. The goal came in the 23rd minute to get the Eagles on the board for the early lead.
The second half goal was netted by Inigo Capellan, his first of the season. Both goals were assisted by Ovidio Paez.
Before the game, the Eagles recognized their 12 seniors on the squad led by co-captains Gabriel Uno, and Gabriel Trevisan. Both of whom have battled injuries this season, but have still led the Eagles to a fine record thus far.
It was another shutout in goal by Ivan Dominguez. While Dominguez does not record many saves thanks to the Judson defense, he also does not allow very many either. The Eagles defensive scheme has stifled many opponents this year. Today was their 9th shutout in 17 games.
Judson has one more regular season match. On Wednesday they host St. Xavier for the finale. The Eagles have clinched a top-3 seed in the CCAC standings which will earn them at least one home playoff game come the postseason. In addition, JU still has a chance at winning the regular season conference title.
For now, the Eagles will celebrate their Senior Day victory with eyes on more celebrating as the season gets to crunch time.
