Elgin, IL - With the top of the CCAC standings closely packed, Saturday afternoon's contest between Judson and Olivet Nazarene projected to be a critical match for both teams. The two teams, along with Governors State, came into Saturday play in a three way tie for first place.
The game was tight and tense throughout as the first half was scoreless. In the second half, it was more of the same; minimal shots, and a lock on the back of the net.
But, in the 59th minute, it was co-captain Gabriel Uno to finally break the tie, and scored an unassisted goal to put JU on top.
In the 77th minute, it was Fernando Nkumah who put the game all but away with an add on goal to make it 2-0. That 2-0 score would go on to be the final.
Incredibly, the game saw just 4 total shots on goal by both teams combined. But, it was JU making not one, but two of those shots count on goals leading to the 2-0 Eagle victory.
Ivan Dominguez was credited with just one save in the match, but it was his eight shutout on the season. Of JU's games, 8 of the 15 games played thus far, have been shutouts for the opponent.
With the win, Judson is now 8-3-4 overall, and 5-0-2 in conference play. The top four teams in the conference are separated by just 3 points. Judson has three games remaining in the regular season before the conference playoffs begin. They have a bit more work to do, but the Eagles are trending toward hosting at least one playoff game in a few weeks.
The Eagles will travel to Holy Cross on Tuesday before finishing with two final home games.
