Kissimmee, FL The Judson University Men's Soccer Team lost a heartbreaking opening match in the NCCAA National Championships on Monday as the Eagles fell to CIU 2-1.
The Eagles appeared to be in good shape to take three points in the NCCAA opener against CIU as the Eagles led 1-0 for 60 minutes of the contest. Christian Horstmann scored the opening goal on a header from a corner kick in the 19th minute of play. The score remained 1-0 until the 79th minute when CIU got their first goal of the game. Heading into the final minute, it appeared the Eagles were set to get one point in the Pool C standings. However, CIU scored the go-ahead goal with two seconds left to earn all three points from the contest.
Judson only had seven shots in the contest. Adrian Bravo led the team with three shots, two of which were on net. Horstmann and Ledesma each had a shot on goal for Judson.
The seventh-seeded Eagles need to defeat the fourth-seeded Southwestern Christian on Tuesday at 6:00 pm EST and will need some additional help in order to stay alive in the tournament.
