Eagles Men's Team Season Concludes At Sectionals
Addison, IL - This past weekend our Judson Eagles competing at the USBC Intercollegiate and Team Championships in Addison, IL. They started with the singles portion on Friday morning with the men's squad.
Junior Griffin Roake led all players with a 14th place finish out of 270 of the best college bowlers in the country. Griffin had his best performance as an Eagle shooting games of 269, 214, 245, 197, 233, 212 for a 1370 total for a 227 average. Griffin only missed making it to Nationals by 56 pins and next season should make a strong impact on the varsity squad! Senior James Kontos finished with 1266 and a 210 average. Senior Anhtony Gutierrez finished with 1227 and a 204 average. Grad Student Jason Claus finished with 1200 and a 200 average for his 6 games.
Other competitors were Senior Sebastian Beth with a high game of 247, Sophomore Caleb Vergona with a high game of 233, Junior Phillip Heuser, Senior Cameron Jablonski with a high game of 235, Freshman Woodley Dangerfield, Freshman Noah Moreno with a high game of 221, Freshman Toby Wamsley, and Junior Adan Cabezudo.
On the Men's side we were able to come away with a 11th place finish. The men started off on fire after the first 16 games and sitting in 6th place with high games of 235, 208, 248, 221, and 204. Heading into the afternoon block we dropped to 8th place with high games of 203, 214, 237, and 227. At this point we were only 225 pins behind the cut with a 32 baker games to go! On Sunday morning there were ups and down and we had high games of 201, 212, 221, 215, and 203 but unfortunately that dropped us to 11th.
In the final block of the day we had high games of 202, 201, 208 and a huge finish with games of 237, 245, and 231 to maintain an 11th place finish. Individual performances included Senior standout Sebastian Beth who was 91% on single pins, 82% on Multipins, and 43% strike percentage. Sebastian finished his college career with some amazing stats as he finished 193/206 on single pins for 94% and an astonishing 157/198 on multipins for 80%. Sebastian was the statistical leader in single pins, multipins, and overall fill percentage and was 2nd in average and pocket percentage all while being a tremendous leader for the team. Senior Jimmy Kontos had a great performance as he was 95% on single pins and struck 48% of the time on the weekend. Jimmy has been a super solid performer and foundation player in his 4 years at Judson!
Jimmy has won a tournament MVP and multiple All Tournament teams as well as being a tremendous teammate! Grad Student Jason Claus was a fantastic addition to the team as he always put team first. Jason is a super hard worker who also had some great performances this season. For sectionals he was 84% on single pins, and struck 44% of the time. Junior Eric Roberts also put up solid numbers this weekend as he went 89% on single pins, 70% on multipins, and struck 44% of the time. Eric's priceless leadership and organizational skills are something that was so important this season to our team. Junior Phillip Heuser Struck 52% of the time and was 72% on multipins for the weekend and the potential is there for a BIG senior season.
Freshman Woodley Dangerfield showed so much promise this season as he was the tournament MVP at the Boilermaker! This weekend he was 76% on single pins, 84% on multipins, and struck 46% of the time. Sophomore Caleb Vergona continues to up his game and this year he also made an All-Tournament team! This weekend Caleb struck 41% of the time and Freshman Noah Moreno was 70% on multipins and continues to work hard to get better for his Sophomore season! This team has some top recruits coming in the fall and the future looks bright for sure!!
Our Judson Eagles Bowling Family also want to honor and recognize our Senior Players as they made their final appearances as Eagles! On the lady's side Marisa Garcia who had many great performances throughout her Bowling Career at Judson. Unfortunately for Marisa she got an eye disease that has caused her to go partially blind so she was unable to compete the 2nd half of the season. We wish Marisa and her family the very best moving forward and send many prayers and well wishes and that GOD will heal her. For the Men Sebastian Beth, James Kontos, Matthew Sipes, Anthony Gutierrez, Jason Claus, and Cameron Jablonski. The impact that each of you made to the program will not be forgotten. Thank you for your hard work and dedication and because of your contributions you are leaving the program in a better place than when you all arrived. You each have meant so much to us and we wish you all the best moving forward. We are all humbled and blessed to have been a part of your College Journey and you will always be a part of our Judson Bowling Family. Once an Eagle always an Eagle!
