Eagles Win... Exhale
Elgin, IL - Another fast start had the Judson Men's Basketball Team riding high going into halftime against St. Ambrose on this afternoon. But, in the second half, things got a little to close for comfort, until the Eagles ultimately prevailed 81-71 over the Bees.
With the win, JU stands at 7-7 in conference play, and 10-12 overall. They have a firm grasp on the 7th seed in the conference tournament currently, but with this needed win over St. Ambrose, they inch closer to them in the standings. "Every win down this stretch is crucial," says Head Coach Bruce Fields.
This game saw four more players reach double figures. Javaris Wiggins led with 26, Anterrious Rhyan had 19, while Cee Jay Nwosu and Barik Olden each added 11.
The Eagles were up what appeared to be comfortably in the second half with a lead that grew to 25 points, but Ambrose battled and cut it to a tense two point game with 3:00 minutes to go.
After a couple of much needed baskets by Wiggings, and some key stops led by Nwosu, the Eagles were able to exhale and take home the victory. "Got a little to close, we relaxed, but we were able to close," says Fields. "We talk about closing, and today was much needed."
Next week, JU will stay home for two more as the regular season winds down. They will host Trinity Christian on Wednesday, with Senior Day to follow on Saturday against Holy Cross.
There is just six games left on the schedule, with hopefully a trip to the CCAC conference tournament to follow.
