Eagles Lose Heartbreaker At The Buzzer
Elgin, IL - On opening night, the Eagles hit a shot at the buzzer for a victory. But on this night, the shot was again hit at the buzzer, but it was ultimately waved off by the officials as it was ruled to come after the final horn. A game-tying layup by Anterrious Rhyan was not to be on this night for JU in a game that they led nearly wire to wire. The final score was JU falling 84-82 to the visiting Cougars of Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Judson welcomed in Mount Vernon Nazarene for a midweek matchup Thursday, and the Eagles got out to a strong start. With a change in the starting lineup, it was Sam Stewart throwing down some early dunks. Guards Anterrious Rhyan and Javaris Wiggins led the way with 22 and 20 points respectively. Sam Ellis led with nine rebounds off the bench. Also getting a start, Finn Walsh added five assists.
The Eagles led nearly the entire way, with the Cougars only lead coming with 35 second left in the contest. But, ultimately that proved to be good enough for the victory inside the Lindner Center. Judson out-rebounded, out-assisted, and outscored Mount Vernon in the paint 44-28 really controlling a well-played game by Head Coach Bruce Fields' bunch. However, the difference may have been Judson had 24 turnovers to Mount Vernon's 10 in the narrow defeat.
Judson has a quick turnaround as they travel out to Davenport on Saturday to take on St. Ambrose to resume CCAC conference play.
The Eagles are playing well with their last two games being tight ball games, and they will look to get over the hump when they take on the Fighting Bees.
